INTRODUCING PILATES.
Pilates is a complete exercise method developed by its founder Joseph Pilates over a course of a lifetime dedicated to improving physical and mental health.
The Pilates exercise method can be taught as a mat class either on its own or with the use of small equipment such as flexi-bands, small balls, toning balls or the magic ring. Pilates can also be taught on the ball or on the larger equipment such as the Cadillac, Reformer, Wunda Chair and Ladder Barrel.
As Pilates emphasises proper alignment, good technique and correct breathing it strengthens the postural muscles which stabilise the torso, correcting muscle imbalance, faulty muscle recruitment patterns and bad habits, the body is brought back into alignment without adding bulk. Thus Pilates is able to increase flexibility and strength as well as integrating body and mind to induce a sense of relaxation and well being. Pilates also plays a key role in rehabilitation programmes for many sport injuries and it is has been innovative in its role in improving neck and back problems.

WHY PILATES - IS IT FOR YOU?
Pilates has been around for nearly a century favoured by dancers and athletes. In recent years its popularity has increased with celebrity status with followers such as Charlize Theron.
Suitable for everyone, regardless of sex, age or physical / medical condition, people are drawn to Pilates because of the effects it has on the body shape and structure. This is gained through a series of stretching and lengthening moves, all of which use your own body weight for resistance, giving the illusion of a longer, leaner physic, without having to lift large heavy weights like in a gym. Many people have even seen an increase in height, have reduced the appearance of those unwanted lumps and bumps and dropped a dress size as a direct result of improved posture.
Others may be drawn to Pilates under the advice and recommendation from a medical practitioner such as a Physiotherapist as an ongoing rehabilitation programme. As the body is re-trained to work efficiently with minimal effort and no tension the body moves with perfect balance and alignment, improving the immune system and general health as the internal organs are able to sit and function correctly with a unrestricted supply of oxygenated blood.

Any person wishing to join in a Pilates Mat or Equipment based class and who has a specific complaint, suffer chronic pain or discomfort, or have sustained any injuries, particularly to the spine or neck, we would advise that you should seek medical advice before embarking on any type of exercise programme.

Testimonial
"I have found the classes taught by Tanya Stagg to be very friendly and enjoyable. Tanya is very welcoming and enthusiastic which encourages maximum participation by everyone in each of the sessions. Tanya explains each exercise in small stages and only extending the move as each individual is able and ready to benefit from the movement according to their individual needs and class level. I have every confidence in her expertise and teaching ability to know that the movements would not overstretch me or cause injury. The large variety of equipment used always enables each movement to have variety and benefit. The class is never exactly the same which adds to the enjoyment. I would recommend Tanya's Pilates classes to all age groups and abilities."

Testimonials
"I have known Nigel Stagg since he joined Target Gym in New Mill as a fitness instructor in 2006. During this time, Nigel has assisted me in preparing for a Marathon and other endurance events. I have attended Nigel's classes, concentrating on core strength and Pilates and found him to be encouraging and knowledgeable. He always achieved the difficult balance of giving individual attention, yet maintaining the class momentum. Nigel has helped me to understand the importance of core strength, stretching and stability together with the underlying physiological theory. It is this knowledge which I feel sure enabled me to train largely injury free for the Marathon. (Something I had never been able to do in the past). Nigel was also invaluable in the area of mental preparation. He helped me with visualisation techniques and gave me the confidence to 'dig deep' during crucial and demanding stages of my training."
"I have also benefited from Nigel's advice and massage techniques post race and with an over-training injury I picked up. The treatment and advice I received enabled me to resume my programme far quicker than would have been otherwise possible."
"On a personal level, I have found Nigel to me highly personable and fun to work with. He has a wide knowledge of a range of different sports and an enthusiasm which is infectious! I wish him well for the future in his new role. I feel certain that Pure Body Solutions will be a huge success."
